He is the best friend I have ever known in my life.
Etymology
From the Arabic root ص-د-ق (ṣ-d-q), meaning "truth" or "sincerity." A *ṣadīq* is literally "one who is truthful (with you)" — a sincere companion. The same root gives us *ṣidq* (honesty) and *taṣdīq* (confirmation/validation), and is shared across Semitic languages, including Hebrew *tzaddik* (righteous person).
Cultural note
In Arab culture, friendship (*ṣadāqa*) carries deep social weight — a true friend is expected to offer loyalty, hospitality, and support without reservation. The word is used across all Arabic-speaking regions. Note the gender distinction: the feminine form is **صَدِيقَة** (*ṣadīqa*) for a female friend. The plural **أَصْدِقَاء** (*aṣdiqāʾ*) is the standard form for "friends."
