Show translation
I'm going home after work.
Etymology
From Latin *casa*, meaning "hut" or "cottage." In classical Latin it referred to a simple rustic dwelling, as opposed to the grander *domus*. Over time it broadened in the Romance languages to become the general word for any home.
Cultural note
In Spanish-speaking cultures, *casa* carries a strong sense of warmth and belonging — the phrase *mi casa es tu casa* ("my house is your house") is a widely known expression of hospitality. Note that *casa* (home/house) is a false friend with the Italian *cosa* (thing), so Italian learners should take care.
