Show translation
Tomorrow I have a difficult test at school.
Etymology
From the verb *probar* ("to test, to prove"), derived from Latin *probāre* ("to test, approve, prove"), rooted in *probus* ("good, honest"). The same Latin root gives English "prove," "proof," and "probe."
Cultural note
*Prueba* is one of those wonderfully versatile Spanish words. In a school context it means a quiz or exam; in a courtroom it means legal evidence; in science it means a trial or experiment; and in everyday speech you might hear *a prueba de* ("proof against," as in *a prueba de agua* — waterproof). In Latin America, *dar una prueba de amor* (to give proof of love) is a common romantic expression. Don't confuse it with *examen*, which is more formal and typically refers to a major exam.
