Show translation
The children run in the park every afternoon.
Etymology
From Latin *currere* ("to run"), from Proto-Indo-European *\*ḱers-* ("to run"). The same Latin root gives English "current," "cursor," "course," and "corridor" — all things that flow or move in a direction.
Cultural note
Running is deeply embedded in Italian culture, both literally and figuratively. The phrase *correre ai ripari* ("to run for cover / to take quick action") is a common idiom. Italy also has a rich tradition of competitive running and cycling (*ciclismo*), and *correre* is the standard verb used for racing of all kinds — on foot, by car (*correre in Formula 1*), or on a bike.
