In Korean social culture, 모임 is a central concept — Koreans often belong to multiple regular 모임 groups: alumni reunions (동창 모임), work colleagues after hours (회식-adjacent gatherings), hobby clubs, and neighborhood associations. Being invited to someone's 모임 is a meaningful sign of inclusion. Don't confuse 모임 with 회의 (hoɰi, a formal business meeting) — 모임 is warmer and more social in tone.
